“Anora” and “Shōgun” Shine at 30th Critics Choice Awards
Adrien Brody and Demi Moore Take Top Acting Honors

The 30th Critics Choice Awards were held on February 7, 2025, at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. The ceremony was originally scheduled for January 12 but was postponed due to wildfires in Southern California. Chelsea Handler hosted the event for the third consecutive year.
The ceremony was hosted by Chelsea Handler at Santa Monica’s Barker Hangar. It honoured achievements in film and television from 2024, with nominations announced separately for film and television earlier in December.
The stripper fairy tale Anora won Best Picture, while Emilia Pérez, The Substance, and Wicked each took home three awards.
Netflix’s controversial Emilia Pérez, which has faced backlash this awards season due to star Karla Sofía Gascón’s past tweets about Black and Muslim people, won Best Foreign Language Film, Best Supporting Actress for Zoe Saldaña, and Best Song for El Mal.
Demi Moore, marking a major comeback, won Best Actress for The Substance, which also secured Best Original Screenplay for director Coralie Fargeat. Meanwhile, Jon M. Chu was a surprise winner for Best Director for Wicked.
In television, the night’s biggest winner was Shōgun, which earned four awards, including Best Drama Series, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress in a Drama.
