Azma Bukhari Raids Lahore Theatres Late-Night, Slams Artists with Show-Cause Notices for ‘Vulgarity’
The minister warned that any artist violating government-mandated SOPs would face permanent bans from performing in Punjab's theatres.

Punjab’s Minister for Information and Culture, Azma Bukhari, has conducted late-night raids at theatres in Lahore, resulting in slapping showcase notices to several artists for vulgarity.
The provincial minister conducted late-night surprise raids on Wednesday night on three prominent theatres in Lahore—Mehfil Theatre, Prince Theatre, and Tamaseel Theatre.
The inspections targeted alleged violations of cultural standards and focused on cafeterias, dressing rooms, and performance halls.
During the raids, Azma Bukhari expressed strong displeasure over the songs performed in stage dramas and the attire of the actresses, deeming them inappropriate. She also criticized the poor cleanliness and hygiene conditions in the theatres and raised concerns about the management practices of Punjab Arts Council officials.
As a result of these inspections, show-cause notices were issued to five stage artists: Sajan Abbas, Neeli, Saima Khan, Nayab Khan, and Sonu Butt.
The minister warned that any artist violating government-mandated Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) would face permanent bans from performing in Punjab’s theatres.
She emphasized her commitment to eradicating vulgarity and indecency in theatre performances while urging theatre owners to focus on producing quality, family-friendly content.
Azma Bukhari reiterated her stance that while she does not wish to take away anyone’s livelihood, she will not tolerate actions that degrade the theatre environment. She also announced plans for stricter monitoring of theatres and called on theatre owners to adhere to their undertakings to maintain cultural standards
