Celebrities Condemn Khalilur Rehman for Latest Misogyny on Television

If you wish to look at what misogyny and male chauvinism would look like, search no more as ‘aced’ drama writer Khalilur Rehman Qamar has started to make quite a lot of television appearances. In his latest, he stooped so low on a live program that was a new low for him too.

Following a quarrel with journalist Marvi Sirmed mad during a talk show at Neo TV, Khalilur Rehman Qamar resorted to not only curse words but personal attacks that went WAY below the belt. And if that was not enough to degrade the respect mankind should hold for each other (regardless of gender) a Twitter war broke out among people who felt Qamar did the right thing vs those who of course have sanity left in them.

Among the same voices were those of Pakistani celebrities who went out and about to call out Qamar for his blatant misogyny and demeanor shameful for any public person.

Mahira Khan, who mostly refrains from commenting on controversies and has also worked with the writer in past took to Twitter to condemn his latest act.

“I am shocked at what I have just heard and seen!! Sick to the core,” tweeted the actress who featured in Qamar’s reason of fame Sadqey Tumharey.

“This same man who abused a woman on TV is revered and given project after project because of what? We are as much to blame if not more for perpetuating this thinking!” she added.

Son of slain governor Salman Taseer, Shahbaz Taseer too made his attempt at Qamar and gave him a taste of his own medicine.

“On behalf of every man I apologize for #khalilurrehmanqamar And not apologize for his actions but his entire being and pathetic existence,” tweeted Taseer.

Another sane voice was of Shahzad Roy who tried to knock sense into masses all the while maintaining his distance from the controversial writer.

“Don’t understand the problem so many are having with #MeraJismMeriMarzi,” tweeted Roy.

“Mera jism meri marzi nahi toh kis ki marzi ho gi?? “My body is mine” is a critical component of the Life Skills Based Education classes we teach to help children protect themselves from abuse & harassment,” he aptly concluded.

Singer Ahmed Jahanzeb too called out Khalilur Rehman Qamar and his reach to the masses which indeed stands in question now.

“This is a man who is looked up to by millions around the world and this is what he is teaching our generation on how to speak or treat a woman?? I m ashamed and sad to b apart of such society,” tweeted the Laila Majnu singer.

In addition, director Nabeel Qureshi too made a series of tweets calling out Qamar on his shameful remarks and expressed anger.

“I have not seen such a JAAHIL insan like #khalilurrehmanqamar who the hell he think he is? News channel invite him, so that he ends up uttering some nonsense and they can fetch some TRPs ! shame on tv channels & Khalil ! Disgraceful,” tweeted the Load Wedding director.

“As great Jaun Elia Sahib Said “Bohut se logoun ko perhna chahyeah mager wo like rahe hain” This is for you #khalilurrehmanqamar,” he made another tweet.

“Unfortunately this kind of people are now writing for tv and their work is popular too this shows our society mentality ! Alarming ! New low!” concluded the director.
