Disney Blames Rachel Zegler’s Political Posts for Snow White Box Office Flop and Gal Gadot Security Threats

Rachel Zegler refused Disney's request to delete pro-Palestine tweet

Disney has reportedly attributed the underperformance of Snow White and the increased security measures for Gal Gadot to Rachel Zegler’s controversial social media posts.

In August 2024, Zegler celebrated the success of the film’s trailer but followed up with a tweet stating “free Palestine,” which sparked political backlash and raised concerns among Disney executives about the film’s commercial viability.

The post, published in August 2024, coincided with the release of the Snow White trailer and ended with the statement: “and always remember, free Palestine.”

The situation escalated when Gadot, who is Israeli, became the target of online death threats, prompting Disney to enhance her security.

An insider revealed that Zegler “didn’t understand the repercussions of her actions,” which further strained her relationship with the studio.

Producer Marc Platt traveled to New York to address the issue directly with Zegler, but she refused to delete the post.

Zegler’s relationship with Disney worsened after she made additional political posts criticizing Donald Trump and his supporters following the U.S. presidential election.

Hiring a social media specialist to oversee her online presence, Snow White grossed only $87 million worldwide, significantly below its $270 million production budget.

The film’s failure has highlighted broader challenges Disney faces with its live-action remake

On the other hand, public reaction to Zegler’s decision has been overwhelmingly supportive.
