Hollywood Awaits Oscar Nominations Amid Wildfire Tragedy

"Emilia Perez," directed by Jacques Audiard, is expected to lead the nominations.

Hollywood is currently facing a sombre atmosphere as it prepares to announce the 2025 Oscar nominations, which will take place today, at 8:30 AM EST.

This year’s announcement has been delayed due to devastating wildfires in Los Angeles that have resulted in over two dozen fatalities and displaced tens of thousands of residents.

Despite the tragic backdrop, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is moving forward with the nominations and the upcoming Oscars ceremony scheduled for March 2, 2025. The event will be held at the iconic Dolby Theatre in Hollywood and will include special tributes to honour those affected by the fires.

Among the films vying for recognition, “Emilia Perez,” directed by Jacques Audiard, is emerging as a front-runner. The film explores the life of a narco boss who undergoes a transformative journey into womanhood. It is expected to garner multiple nominations, including Best Picture and potential acting nods for its stars, Karla Sofia Gascon and Zoe Saldana.

The Oscars will air live on ABC and stream on platforms such as Hulu, with Conan O’Brien set to host this year’s ceremony.
