The ban on Joyland lifted; Film will be releasing on Nov 18

On Tuesday, PM Shehbaz formed an eight-member committee to look into complaints filed against Joyland.

The ban on Joyland has been lifted!

The film will now be releasing on November 18, across the country.

As reported, the development comes after the committee formed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif watched the film along with the members of the full board of the Central Film Censor Board.

The committee and the film censor board is reported to have cut seven more scenes from the actual film after the  process of screening, though the Joyland had been cleared by the censor boards earlier.

The head of the Prime Minister’s Strategic Reforms Salman Sufi in a tweet on Wednesday evening shared the development.

“The film #Joyland has been cleared for release by the Censor board review committee formed at the direction of PM @CMShehbaz Freedom of speech is fundamental right & should be nourished within ambit of the law,” Salman Sufi said.

Saim Sadiq’s Joyland is Pakistan’s submission for best international feature at the Oscars 2023 as well.

Joyland has been written and directed by Saim Sadiq, and produced by Apoorva Guru Charan, Sarmad Sultan Khoosat and Lauren Mann.

The lead cast of the film features Ali Junejo, Rasti Farooq, Alina Khan, Sarwat Gillani, Salman Peerzada, Sohail Sameer and Sania Saeed.

Shot in Lahore, the film has the distinction of being Pakistan’s first Cannes entry as well.
