Why can’t we take dramas as dramas? Ayeza Khan’s ‘Laapata’ criticized for harassment scene
Why can’t we take dramas as dramas? it’s unfortunate that in this present age of social media anything could become a trending issue without considering the background of the matter.
The recent Ayeza Khan starrer Laapata’s first episode came on netizens’ radar!
As soon as the first episode of Ayeza Khan’s new drama ‘Laapata’ aired, it was criticized for being careless on a sensitive subject like harassment.
A clip from the first episode has gone viral on social media, showing Geeti (Ayeza Khan) taking a bargain from a local shopkeeper and threatening to eat up the social media power as a ticker to demand payment of past arrears. Terrified, the shopkeeper gives up the demand for money!
A large number of social media users have strongly criticized the portrayal of the most important issue like harassment in this way, saying that even the true events are not considered important in society, so showing it will lead to further confusion.
In addition singer Mesha Shafi and actor Adnan Malik also satirized the playwrights for taking the sensitive topic of harassment as insignificant in Instagram posts.
Mesha Shafi termed it as highly undesirable and said that it is very irresponsible but then it is being shown on Hum TV networks who never hid where they stand in hatred of women.
While Adnan Malik wrote, that he wasn’t surprised because that’s what happens in 99% of our dramas!
Just after watching the single episode, there has been a lot of hues and cry over the particular scene:
Ayeza Khan’s character is not positive in the show. She’s actually shown as exploitative and often has a disregard of other people’s feelings. If you can’t understand storytelling, stop outraging. Writing stupid things in capslock doesn’t make it correct. #Laapata https://t.co/sutkyQPu8r

This is how you make people believe that women lie and misuse social media for their personal benefits.
In a country where we get a hashtag with a woman’s name daily??

Pakistani audiences are bizarre.
A storyteller can write/show everything problematic.
The line is drawn in regards to the glorification of it.
There are all kinds of people in this society!
Don't ever try to take away someone's license to creative freedom.
Dear drama fans you need to watch the coming episodes to understand why that character was shown in such negative light.
Spilling some beans, lead star Ayeza Khan aka Geeti Princess in her Instagram post said, “How is Geeti going to get caught in her own wrongdoings, wait for the next episodes!’
