Mattel Apologizes for Misprint on Wicked Doll Packaging Redirecting to Adult Site

Social media users highlighted that the packaging for the Wicked dolls contained a link to Wicked Pictures, an adult film company

Mattel has recently faced backlash due to a significant misprint on the packaging of its new Wicked dolls, which inadvertently directed consumers to an adult website instead of the intended movie promotional site.

This error, affecting dolls based on the characters Glinda and Elphaba from the upcoming film starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, was discovered by fans who scanned QR codes or followed links printed on the boxes.

The Wicked dolls are part of a highly anticipated launch coinciding with the film’s release on November 22, 2024.

Social media users highlighted that the packaging for the Wicked dolls contained a link to Wicked Pictures, an adult film company, rather than the official movie site, wickedmovie.com. This misdirection raised concerns among parents and consumers alike.

In response to the uproar, Mattel, an American multinational toy manufacturing and entertainment company, issued a public apology, expressing deep regret for the “unfortunate error.”

The company emphasized that the incorrect website is “not appropriate for children” and advised parents to either discard or obscure the misprinted links on their purchased products.

Furthermore, Mattel also committed to removing affected products from retail shelves across major stores like Walmart, Target, and Amazon. They are also encouraging consumers who have encountered this issue to reach out to customer service for assistance.
