Mel Gibson to direct upcoming Hollywood film Destroyer

Mel Gibson has found his new film project as director and it sounds great. According to reports, Gibson is all set to direct another World War II related film named Destroyer. Recently direction by Mel Gibson included Hacksaw Ridge in 2016, for which the director also received an Oscar nomination as well.

This upcoming film is going to be based on the book by John Wukovits named, ”Hell from the Heavens: The Epic Story of the USS Laffey and World War II’s Greatest Kamikaze Attack”. To construct the story of the book, the author has used personal interviews with the survivors, memoirs written by crew members and sailors and war time correspondence.

Similar to Hacksaw Ridge,  Destroyer will also be based on the Battle of Okinawa. Set in April 1945 and will tell the epic story of the USS Laffey,  a destroyer warship that withstood multiple Kamikaze (Japanese Special Attack Units of military aviators) attacks and earned the nickname “The Ship That Would Not Die.”

The script for the film is written by Rosalind Ross. It is also being reported that Gibson is also being eyed by Warner Bros. for a possible role in The Six Billion Dollar Man opposite Mark Wahlberg, who is gearing up for it.

With Gibson at the helm of the film, Destroyer will be a spectacle to look forward to. Over years, Gibson has established himself as great director and story teller with films like, Passion for the Christ 2004, Apocalypto 2006, Brave Heart 1995 and Man Without a Face 1993.
