Streaming giant Netflix that recently collaborated with Roald Dahl Story Company and announced a series based on the author’s work Matilda, has now revealed details of its second project Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. As per the latest details, Netflix will be working on two animated series based on the Willy Wonka film.
“The shows will retain the quintessential spirit and tone of the original story while building out the world and characters far beyond the pages of the Dahl book for the very first time,” said Netflix in a statement.
Academy award winner Taika Waititi has been tasked with writing, directing and executive producing the series. Out of the two, one series will be based on the events of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory whereas the other will be based on Oompa-Loompa characters who were Wonka’s employees.
“In the words of Willy Wonka himself – we are ‘Delighted! Charmed! Overjoyed!’” said Gideon Simeloff, commercial and entertainment director for the Roald Dahl Story Company.
