Netflix will not be adding ‘fiction’ disclaimer to its popular royal drama series,’The Crown’.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the streaming giant said it sees ‘no need’ to add the disclaimer, which was requested by the UK government.
“We have always presented The Crown as a drama and we have every confidence our members understand it’s a work of fiction that’s broadly based on historical events,” reads the statement.
“As a result we have no plans, and see no need, to add a disclaimer,” it added further.
It was a week ago when UK Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden, joining a few others in calls, demanded the streaming giant to add a note at the beginning of each episode.
He said that the viewers could mistakenly take it as fact when it would stream without warning at the start of each episode.
The much anticipated season 4 of Netflix series landed on the streaming platform on 15th November 2020. The fourth season covers the British Royals’ life from 1977 to 1990.
