Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio starrer Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is all set to release in China today, (October 25). However, interestingly the film will feature additional 10-minute footage comprising of four scenes, reported The Hollywood Reporter.
The additional footage has come off as a surprise after China’s disapproval of Bruce Lee’s character depicted in the film it was expected that Sony would rather remove some scenes.
Director Quentin Tarantino had although categorically rejected the notion and recently stated that he will not omit any scene of the film to get it released in China. In fact, the movie now has additional scenes that will presumably only add to the film’s original plot.
Bruce Lee’s daughter Shannon has bee major critic of her father’s portrayal in the 1969 based movie and requested China’s National Film Administration to demand an alteration in the action hero’s character in the film.
Turns out, neither Shannon’s demands nor China’s rigorous censor board were able to make amends in Tarantino’s 9th film.
Apart from China’s release, the film is also re-releasing in 1000 theaters of the US and Canada with the additional footage. This step has been taken to broaden the film’s reach that has so far earned $368 million worldwide.
