Oppenheimer’s scene reciting a verse from the Bhagwad Gita during sex stirs controversy in India

Oppenheimer’s scene showing the protagonist reciting a verse from the Bhagwad Gita during sex stirs controversy among the Far-Right Hindus, demanding an investigation into the matter.
Soon after the release of Christopher Nolan’s latest biographical thriller, it was discovered that the renowned theoretical physicist was deeply inspired by the Bhagawad Gita, a sacred text in Hinduism. And a particular scene features the protagonist reciting from it.
The particular scene in question features the protagonist reciting a verse from the Bhagwad Gita, a sacred Hindu text, considered the holiest of Hindu scripture, during sexual intercourse.
Oppenheimer was released in India on Friday with much fanfare and was rated by the Central Board of Film Certification U/A, which recommends parental guidance for viewers aged under 12.
However, the particular scene has sparked outrage on social media in India.
Just so that you know, as impressed as Indians are with the film, they are also furious about a scene where Nolan inserted
The Hindu Scripture – Bhagwad Geeta, in a sex scene. The book was significant to #Oppenheimer in real life, but in the movie, it is reduced into vulgarity! https://t.co/sYZ17VSxsC— 🇮🇳 | Sri | ଶ୍ରୀ | श्री (@sahusri96) July 23, 2023
Can’t Understand the Hype Behind Oppenheimer
Seeing the Visuals, The Bhagwad Geeta Scene Appears to be Highly Disrespectful
Wonder Why People are Silent and it’s Not Banned in India Yet?

Not only that, but Oppenheimer read it to a woman who was in a superior position to him in bed and making him “read the Bhagwad Geeta aloud…while doing sexual intercourse.” 😳 At least according to Nolan whose film was massively outselling Barbie in tickets in India last week! pic.twitter.com/Sl4Zsbxf5q

Oppenheimer, directed by Christopher Nolan, stars Cillian Murphy as US physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, who oversaw the creation of the atomic bomb during World War Two, grossed around INR600 million ($7.33 million) since Friday.
However, the public seems to have realized the Bhagwad Geeta scene after watching it.
“This should be investigated… on an urgent basis and those involved should be severely punished,” the nationalist “Save Culture Save India Foundation” said in a press release.
