Pokémon’s New Mobile Game Hits 60M Downloads, Rakes in $180M Revenue
This app is a digital adaptation of the classic Pokémon trading card game
Pokémon’s latest mobile game, Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, has achieved remarkable success since its release on October 30, 2024.
The game has surpassed 60 million downloads globally and generated approximately $180 million in revenue within just six weeks of its launch. Some estimates suggest the revenue could be slightly higher, around $185 million.
This app is a digital adaptation of the classic Pokémon trading card game, allowing players to open virtual booster packs, collect creatures, and engage in online battles. It aims to replicate the engaging experience of the physical card game that has been popular since the late 1990s.
Pokémon TCG Pocket ranks as one of the top-grossing mobile collectable card games (CCGs) of 2024, second only to its predecessor, Pokémon Go, in terms of first-month revenue performance. Analysts note it is showing one of the strongest performances for a mobile game ever recorded.
The game’s popularity is particularly strong in Japan, which accounts for about 44% of total downloads, followed by the United States at 20.6%. Other notable markets include Brazil and France.
The resurgence of interest in Pokémon through this app has also led to increased sales of physical Pokémon cards, indicating a broader revival of the franchise among younger audiences.
