Punjab government bans Joyland one day ahead of its release!
The development comes right after Joyland was cleared for release by the Censor board review committee formed at the direction of PM Shehbaz Sharif.
In the latest development, the Government of Punjab has retracted its No Objection Certificate (NOC) issued to the movie Joyland.
The notification issued by Information and Culture Department reads that the Punjab government, in the wake of complaints, has decided to ‘recall’ the movie by “exercising powers conferred under Section-9 (1 and 2) Motion Pictures Ordinance, 1979.”
“You are therefore directed not to exhibit above titled film in the jurisdiction of Punjab province till further orders of the Govt,” reads the notification.
The head of the Prime Minister’s Strategic Reforms Salman Sufi in a tweet on Wednesday informed that “The film #Joyland has been cleared for release by the Censor board review committee formed at the direction of PM @CMShehbaz Freedom of speech is fundamental right & should be nourished within the ambit of the law.”
