Ryan Reynolds plays a perfect Detective Pikachu in new Pokémon trailer

The first trailer for Detective Pikachu gives us a glimpse of how the real world would look if these creatures walked among us in everyday life. Detective Pikachu is based on the Nintendo 3DS game of the same name.

The Deadpool star, Ryan Reynolds voices a lovable, fuzzy version of Pikachu in the first live-action Pokémon movie.

The trailer featured Reynolds as Pikachu and the human lead, Tim, played by Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’s Justice Smith.

Tim is able to comprehend Pikachu even though most humans can’t interact with him. Everyone else only hears “Pika Pika!”

Together they team up to help Tim find his missing dad. Ryan tweeted, “I think we all knew I’d wind up as a miniature detective repeatedly saying the same two words. Just didn’t think it’d be this soon. #PikaPika #DetectivePikachu”.

The film hits theatres on May 11, 2019.
