Pakistani cinema industry, although still enroute revival after its decline, surely had its period of blooms. There was a time, our films had their own glorious runs at cinema houses and made a mark on audience. The decline certainly came, but times have changed. And now it seems apt that these glorious journey be documented.
The book Journey Through Lens, written by Aijaz Gull and Jamal Sohail was launched at Al Hamra Art Centre on Wednesday by Lok Virsa in collaboration with Lahore Arts Council. Celebrities from the cinema industry and other notable personality graced the book launch, including, the famous film director Syed Noor, Dr Fouzia Saeed, Aijaz Gul and Jamal Sohail as speakers at the event. The attendees also shared their experiences in the industry over the past year, giving the audience a glimpse into the real life struggles and successes of these people.
This book Journey Through Lens primarily focuses on the cinema of Pakistan which is an essential part of the country’s cultural heritage. It traces the history of the cinema in the subcontinent back from 1906 when the first film shots were screened in a hotel in Mumbai. It also highlights the best of film from the ‘50s and beyond. This book promises to take us on a trip to nostalgia, down into the memory lane, where everything is black and white to today’s colorful and digital pictures too.
