Social and entertainment event Lahooti Melo which was scheduled to take place in Jamshoro, Sindh on January 17 has been postponed due to cold waves and expected rain in the city. The theme of this year’s event was Climate Action – Eco not Ego.
“We feel that we should not risk the health and well-being of our workers, speakers, and attendees,” said Sana Khoja co-founder Lahooti Melo.
The announcement was also shared on Instagram by the co-founder Saif Samejo:
While talking to the local publication, Sana went on to add that despite the organizing team is ready to kick off the event on the planned date, it is impossible for laborers to carry out tasks at the moment.
The new dates for the event are February 14, 15 and 16, marking the first time the Lahooti Melo would be conducted over three days. The event aims at bringing attention to global social issues through panel discussions and add a hint of entertainment as well.
Sana went on to talk about the theme of the fifth edition ‘climate change’ through which the organizers intend to kickstart a discussion on the global issue in the interior region of Pakistan.
“There are a lot of events in urban cities such as Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad around similar themes. However, the people there aren’t necessarily aware of the ground reality in interior Sindh. Our main focus is to talk about climate keeping in view of its implications at a grass-root level. We want to address environmental themes in a way that doesn’t alienate the culture and the way of life in interior,” said Sana.
“Our team has worked immensely hard to bring you the best line up of performers and speakers based on our theme ‘Eco, Not Ego’, so we hope for your cooperation,” she added.
