Designer Zara Shahjahan Pays Tribute to Karachi Ahead of New Store Launch

This appreciation for Karachi underscores her commitment to catering to the diverse tastes of its fashion-conscious consumers.

Designer Zara Shahjahan, known for her vibrant and exquisite Pakistani fashion, has expressed her admiration for Karachi as she prepares to expand her brand presence in the city.

Although there is no specific mention of a new store opening recently, Zara Shahjahan already has a strong presence in Karachi with existing stores.

Zara Shahjahan’s flagship store in Karachi was first opened in 2015 at Main Bokhari Commercial, Khayaban-e-Shujaat. She also has another location at Dolmen Mall Clifton. Her brand offers a wide range of collections including unstitched suits, ready-to-wear clothing, and bridal wear.

In paying homage to Karachi, Zara highlights the city’s dynamic energy and its influence on her designs. She notes that Karachi is “motion” and “wind against your face,” reflecting its fast-paced lifestyle that contrasts with Lahore’s nostalgic charm.

“I’m not from Karachi. I’m from Lahore. But… But I have always loved cities that are restless, cities that never truly sleep, cities that carry the weight of too many stories and wear them like a second skin. Karachi is that city. It is not soft, not carefully arranged like a garden in bloom. It is wild and electric, unpredictable like the sea that watches over it. It is a city that does not wait for you to understand it—you either dive in or step aside,” the designer wrote.

She went on to add, “I have stepped in. I come from Lahore, where history is pressed into the walls, where the past lingers in the scent of rain on old brick. Lahore is nostalgia, poetry, a place that holds you like an old song. But Karachi—Karachi is motion. It is wind against your face, salt in your hair, the sound of a thousand footsteps marching forward without looking back.”

“And now, I find myself bringing something of Lahore into the heart of Karachi. A store, a space, a piece of my world stitched into the fabric of this city. Not to tame it, not to soften it, but to become a part of its pulse. Because Karachi wears its defiance beautifully, and fashion here is not just about cloth—it is about movement, about identity, about the way the city holds itself together despite everything, ” Zara Shahjahan wrote.
