Avatar2 gets a new release date

Avatar 2 finally gets a new release date, it is set to hit theatres on December 17, 2021. The film which was supposed to release two years ago will release during the pre-Christmas week of 2021.

Film fans who are intrigued by James Cameron’s Avatar sequels will now have to wait even longer than they first thought.

While sharing the news, Cameron  wrote in a post on Twitter, “Busy on set, so no time to hang around but just dropping in to share the news — Sivako! @OfficialAvatar”

Avatar 2, which was originally slated for December release in 2020, has officially been pushed back by an entire year reportedly due to a major shakeup by Disney.

As Disney has acquired Avatar after completing its $71 billion purchase for assets that originally belonged to Fox earlier this year.

According to the original plan, Avatar 2 was to hit theaters back in 2014, but development on the screenplays, which then led to James Cameron expanding his plan from two Avatar sequels to four, caused significant delays.

The reason for the delay is being attributed to Star Wars, as the studio announced three brand new films set in a galaxy far far away.

In an official statement, Cathleen Taff, President, Theatrical Distribution, Franchise Management, and Business & Audience Insights, The Walt Disney Studios, said, “We’re excited to put in place a robust and diverse slate that lays the foundation of our long-term strategy,

bringing together a breadth of films from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, Fox, Fox Searchlight, and Blue Sky Studios to create an extraordinary collection of cinematic experiences for audiences around the world.”

She further stated, “With a strong summer already in place, we are eager to carry that momentum forward over the coming years thanks to a creative wellspring of bold and imaginative stories coming from our world-class studios—including several new chapters of two revered franchises, Avatar and Star Wars.”

The 2009 film was a huge success among the audience. That has expanded the vibrant world of Pandora, as four sequels to the film were earlier to release in 2020, 2022 and 2023, when James Cameron changed the dates yet again.

It means that that fans now have to wait until at least 2027 to see the 4th outing .
