Barney the dinosaur is making a comeback with its own live-action flick and 90s kids – who have grown up watching the purple dinosaur cannot be more excited.
In collaboration with Valparaiso Pictures and Daniel Kaluuya’s 59%, Mattel Films is making the live-action film of the iconic studded animal character.
“Working with Daniel Kaluuya will enable us to take a completely new approach to ‘Barney’ that will surprise audiences and subvert expectations,” said Mattel Films.
Kaluuya added, “Barney was a ubiquitous figure in many of our childhoods, then he disappeared into the shadows, left misunderstood,” while continuing, “We’re excited to explore this compelling modern-day hero and see if his message of ‘I love you, you love me’ can stand the test of time.”
“Barney is a dinosaur from our imagination, and we can’t wait to get ‘I love you, you love me’ stuck in heads everywhere, yet again,” said David Carrico of Valparaiso Pictures.
It is yet unclear as to who will be playing the character of Barney which has been ironically played by David Joyner from 1991 to 2001.
