Documentary on Sheema Kermani’s Life Wins 2 Awards at South Asian Film Festival Montreal

Directed by Taimur Rahim, With Bells on her Feet, is a documentary based on acclaimed dancer Sheema Kermani life. The documentary has just released its trailer and won two awards at the South Asian Film Festival at Montreal.

The film, mainly focusing on Kermani’s activism, has won Best Short and Audience Choice awards at the prestigious festival.

“This film is a labour of love. Miss Sheema Kermani’s many years of experience and especially the beauty she brings to every movement is the essence of the film. Moving forward my hope is that our youth be uninhibitedly allowed to express themselves, whether it’s dance or any other form of expression. May freedom, kindness and tolerance always prevail,” said Taimur Rahim while talking to Images.

On the other hand, Sheema too was ecstatic over the film made on her life.

“I was quite taken aback and surprised when a handsome young man came to see me, he introduced himself as a filmmaker and said that he wanted to make a short documentary about my life and work. Nothing that I said would put him off and soon I was persuaded by his conviction and determination,” recalled Sheema while talking to the same publication.

She congratulated the team of the film for winning the awards. With Bells on Her Feet will be released online by 2020.
