“Jackpot is all about entertainment” Oye Yeah exclusive with the exuberant Sanam Chaudhry
In a well crowded international restaurant, media was invited to interview cast and director of Jackpot. Usually, in presence of media personnel, actors and actresses give out serious interviews and showcase how they played out their characters. In stark contrast, the cast of Jackpot was having a lot more fun. There were lots of shootouts, and pictures being taken. The interviews, were filled with laughter and a general sense of chirpiness. So when I interviewed, Sanam Chaudhry, I quite enjoyed the breeziness of it. Perhaps the film makers and their PR team wanted it to be liked that.

“I am playing Chandni” she said with a bright smile on her face.
“And she is a working lady. During her journey, she finds the love of her. And that is perhaps her jackpot,” she added.
The general sense of the film is that it is focused on entertainment. Why have the film makers and actors, gone for comedy as a tool to entertain the audiences I asked.
“I think our people like comedies. They like to come out of cinema with a smile on their face. So this film does that. We kept laughing throughout the shoot. It’s a comedy thriller, with exceptionally talented cast. I am sure the audience will have a great time in cinema.” She claimed with a calm sense of assurance.

The friendship of the two lead actors is well known. How was to work opposite some who she considers her best friend?
“The hardest part were the romantic scenes. Either one of us would use to just chuckle and look the other way. It was fun also. We worked together and it was fun. Plus when Javed Sheikh sahib is on board, you have to bring your A game. He is playing a Don. Is he sweet to me, is he rude to me in the film? Watch it to find out.”
I asked what she enjoyed doing more, film or TV and this brought the most serious answer of the whole conversation.
“I have now worked for 6 years in TV. I have learned the ropes of it. Film is a whole new kettle of fish altogether. You have to understand your audience. Then deliver as per their wishes. We with Jackpot have tried to do exactly that.” Not long before we find out, if the audiences really enjoy such comedies.

And how have been these visits to malls and other promotional visits been for Sanam?
“Oh overwhelming!” she said with a sense of excitement.
“It’s lovely to be out and about. The love you get from fans is to be cherished. I am expecting them to flock to the cinemas and have a good time with Jackpot.”
With that I had had my fun. In little nuggets, Sanam has highlighted what the film is trying to achieve. The greatest test will be on the 6th of July, the day the film releases but on the media junket day, with fun and engaging interviews and courteous selfies, the Jackpot cast won the hearts of those in attendance.
