Joaquin Phoenix will play the role of ‘clown prince of crime’ in the upcoming standalone origin film
The Walk the Line actor Joaquin Phoenix has been reported to finalize the deal to star as the arch-nemesis of Batman. And the shooting is reported to kick off in September this year. According to the media reports, this film is being directed by Todd Phillips, who has also co-written the film alongside The Fighter’s Scott Silver with project’s budget is in the 55 million dollar range.
It has also been confirmed by Warner Bros that Joker’s stand-alone film starring award-winning actor Joaquin Phoenix is in the works. According to the Warner Bros official press announcement, “The film centers on the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of a man disregarded by society is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale”.
However it’s not the only news, there is another Joker movie in the works. A second stand-alone movie with Jared Leto, who played the character in Suicide Squad, is also in development. Release date for the said movie has not yet been given by the studio.
Phoenix won the best actor award at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival for Lynne Ramsey’s “You Were Never Really Here”. He stars in Gus Van Sant’s “Don’t Worry He Won’t Get Far on Foot”, releasing this week.
