Quentin Tarantino’s directorial and starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt in the lead, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood was all set to release in China on the 25th of October. However, the release of the film was then put on an indefinite hold in the country.
Although no solid reason has been given to the production house, it is being said that Bruce Lee’s daughter Shannon Lee, appealed to China’s National Film Administration, demanding changes in the way her father was portrayed in the film.
Without solid evidence but Shannon’s interview with The Wrap to back the source’s claim it is being concluded that Once Upon A Time in Hollywood might not release in China at all. In the interview, Shannon had shared, “He (my father) comes across as an arrogant a*****e who was full of hot air. And not someone who had to fight triple as hard as any of those people did to accomplish what was naturally given to so many others.”
With Quentin Tarantino not ready to make the desired cuts for the film to release in China, it seems the fate of the Brad Pitt and DiCaprio starrer has been sealed in the region.
Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is not just a critically acclaimed film but a high grosser as well. The film managed to earn an impressive $366 million (globally), on a $90 million budget and would have hit the $400 million mark with its release in China.
