Oye Yeah Commentary: Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat!
It’s been almost two weeks since the movie Padmaavat was released despite of facing all the controversies, protests, bans and threats. The movie has already bagged 40 million across the globe. It seems to be particular Sanjay Leela Bansali’s trade mark movie.

The internet is already swarmed with reviews, praises and criticism. There is no second thought; Mr. Bansali has contributed his one of the finest piece of cinematography, as far as one is not the student of history. It shouldn’t be a historical movie, trio of acting, pinch of music and yeah not to mention the brilliance of the vibrant costumes were remarkable that’s what Bollywood is all about. And filming on massive sets is definitely one of the features of his movies.
Back to back three major hits in a row is something remarkable, but for a fan like me things are getting monotonous. From Ram Leela to Baji Rao Mastani to Padmaavat flavors are getting identical.
The song where a happy and crazy Khilji celebrate the arrival of Padmavati in his capital will remind you of a similar dance performance of Ranveer in the song Malhari from Bajirao Mastani. Every movie of Bansali has a chandelier in common to hang around for major scene, remember Hum Dil day Chukay Sanam, Salman Khan’s and Aishwarya’s chemistry going along beside a chandelier. Then again in Devdas, later in Baji Rao’s and Kashi Bai’s Palace. Yet again, in Padmaavat, Ratan Singh and Padmavati has a sweet moment when the latter is trying to raise the chandelier.
Both the characters Mastani, and later Padmaavati in their roles have to prove their intelligence with witty replies. The courtship of both the couples is similar in respective movies. And remember the way Ram dressed up in dhoti, same is shown for Ratan Singh, similar dhoti and style. Strange isn’t it a simple thing as dhoti gets resemblance.
Ghoomar and Dewaani Mastani , as well as the Nagada Sang Dhol Bajay, had lot of similarities, the major song of the all three movies have kind of same setup and similar moves. And all the three ladies performing for their beloved in a analogous way, that might have been demand for the story there fore comes the similarity.
Some people are terming it as a biased movie, if one ignores the facts it was epic performance for Khiji’s character. The protests for the movie did sabotage the Islamophobic element in the movie; otherwise it would have been Muslims protesting over it. And adding much to amazement, there was a slight hint that Khilji was a homosexual, watch the movie again. It won’t get unnoticed. Do you still glorify Sanjay Leela Bhansali and the creative genius you believed he was?
