Pakistani short film, Darling to be screened at Toronto International Film Festival

After making it to one of the big three film festivals, i.e. the Venice Film Festival, Pakistani short film, Darling, has now made it to the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival. Darling will be screened at TIFF as part of the Short Cuts lineup.

Directed by Saim Sadiq, a 28 year-old filmmaker from Lahore and a graduate student enrolled at Columbia University in New York, Darling follows the story of a young boy Shani who helps his trans friend and crush audition for the lead in an erotic dance show.

Highlighting experiences unheard of, Darling is a film set in a dance theatre in Lahore, following the story of a young boy and trans girl. According to TIFF,  Darling depicts the guileless ambition and inevitable compromises of two young adults daring to imagine bolder roles for themselves than society has envisioned.

Darling’s cast includes upcoming actress Mehar Bano, Nadia Afgan, Abdullah Malik and a trans girl Alina.

This year, TIFF will be held from September 5th to September 15th, featuring 35 films from film-makers across 30 states and 20 different languages.
