Panama Papers Scandal, a leak of documents from a Panamanian law firm that shook the world in 2016 is presumably one of the biggest scandals in recent history. The law firm at the center of the controversy Mossack Fonseca has shut down last year in the U.S after it was accused of helping clients embezzle millions of tax money by offshore shelf companies.
The same law firm is now suing Netflix for releasing a film surrounding the scandal that unmasked black money of hundreds of millionaires like Nawaz Sharif, Vladimir Putin, Amitabh Bachchan, and Lionel Messi.
“In its movie … (Netflix) defames and portrays the plaintiffs (Mossack and Fonseca) as ruthless uncaring lawyers who are involved in money laundering, tax evasion, bribes and/or other criminal conduct,” says the lawsuit filed by the firm against the streaming giant.
Scheduled to release today (October 18) the movie titled The Laundromat, stars Gary Oldman and Antonio Banderas as the two partners Jurgen Mossack and Ramon Fonseca, running Mossack Fonseca.
Featuring Meryl Streep the movie’s teaser opens up and shows this written “How do 15 million millionaires in 200 countries stay rich? With lawyers like these.” – Followed by faces of Oldman and Banderas as the rich lawyers.
