Robert Downey Jr. who played Iron Man aka Tony Stark for over a decade, till Avengers: Endgame happened, recently opened up about his second skin character. In a feature interview issued by Marvel Cinematic Universe, the actor pondered upon his character’s transformation and growth over the span of 10 years.
As Iron Man opened in 2008, it was Tony Stark a rich billionaire who was too rash, too brat and quite oblivious to life beyond his empire. Slowly and gradually as Tony evolved into Iron Man, the world saw him evolve in other ways too.
“I think more than anything, it’s a journey from being a self-centered narcissist to making space for others,” said Robert.
The 54-year old actor added that while Tony transformed into Iron Man he also learnt to prioritize his relationships, especially with Pepper Potts and Captain America.
“[He learnt to] make space for relationship with Pepper, [then] common tragic things happened with him and Captain,” said Robert of the beginning of Endgame that brought Tony back with Steve Rogers aka Captain America (Chris Evans).
“And then [he learnt] healing because we had to fight for the greater good,” stated Robert who also reminisced on the aspect of Tony’s evolution as a father who wished to protect the whole world for the sake of his child.
