Earlier last month the news broke the internet and subsequently fans’ hearts that the partnership between Sony and MCU has come to an end as the former couldn’t come to terms with Disney over Spiderman’s rights. This resulted as an end of long – and successful – a partnership between Sony, who owns Spidey, and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige who made Tom Holland’s Spidey as we know it today.
“It was a tenuous, fraught union throughout the whole process. But, I will say, stepping back and trying to be objective as possible, that I think it’s a tragic mistake on Sony’s part to think that they can replicate Kevin’s penchant for telling incredible stories and the amazing success he has had over the years. I think it’s a big mistake,” said Russo brothers.
Albeit Sony is trying hard to not let Kevin’s absence impact the Spiderman’s popularity, Russo and fans think it might be practically impossible.
As an attempt to reduce the damage (and salvage something of the previous Spidey success) Sony has already hired screenwriters Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers to script down Spiderman 3, and their next goal is to lock Jon Watts to direct the movie. It is however expected that Watts will stick by MCU and might be directing Nova, instead of his good old Spiderman.
