Sonic the Hedgehog has best ever opening weekend for a video game movie

A few months ago Sonic The Hedgehog movie’s trailer became a laughing stock as the audience mercilessly trolled the film’s titular character’s design and its eerily human teeth. “Sonic” was then postponed three months to give the character a design overhaul and now, when the film has been released, it seems the design change has definitely worked well in the film’s favor.

After its release, “Sonic the Hedgehog” has become the weekend’s top film and the highest-grossing opening for a video game adaptation. For Paramount, the film’s opening numbers are a welcome success following the prior disasters such as “Gemini Man” and “Terminator: Dark Fate.” As it is being estimated, “Sonic” is expected to gross $68 million over the four-day Presidents Day holiday weekend.

According to Chris Aronson, distribution chief for Paramount, “If you don’t listen to your customer, and this goes for any business, then you’re going to fail.”

Adding further about Sonic’s revamped design, the chief stated, “We retooled Sonic in a way that was obviously very satisfying for the fans and they were very forgiving. Now that they’ve seen the movie, they love the movie. It all worked out.”
