Deadpool & Wolverine’ Hits Unthinkable Milestone, Surpassing ‘Barbie’ at the Box Office!
Deadpool & Wolverine is also the second-biggest film of 2024
Deadpool & Wolverine reached another milestone this weekend, surpassing Marvel Studios and Disney’s R-rated film, Barbie.
As reported, Deadpool & Wolverine has now secured the eleventh spot on the list of all-time top-grossing films at the domestic box office.
Becoming the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, the film earned an additional $679,000 over the weekend after Disney expanded its theatre count from 990 to 1,500 nationwide.
Starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, the movie concluded Sunday with a total of $636.3 million in the U.S., slightly surpassing Barbie’s $636.2 million.
It’s worth noting that Barbie remains the 15th highest-grossing film in history, with a worldwide total of $1.446 billion, while Deadpool & Wolverine has reached $1.336 billion globally so far.
Additionally, last weekend, Deadpool & Wolverine pushed Star Wars: Episode VIII—The Last Jedi out of the top 20 highest-grossing films.
Since its release this summer, the film has shattered numerous box office records, including the largest opening weekend for an R-rated film at $211 million.
Within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it ranks as the seventh-highest-grossing movie globally and fifth-highest in the U.S. alone.
Importantly, Deadpool & Wolverine is also the second-biggest film of 2024, trailing only Pixar and Disney’s Inside Out 2, which has grossed $652.9 million in the U.S. and $1.694 billion worldwide.
