‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Movie Surpasses $1 Billion at Global Box Office

"Deadpool & Wolverine" has provided a much-needed boost for Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The “Deadpool & Wolverine” movie on Sunday has officially joined the billion-dollar club!

The superhero sequel, featuring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as their iconic comic book characters, has earned $494.3 million in North America and $535.1 million internationally, bringing its global box office total to $1.029 billion.

It’s the second film of 2024 to cross the billion-dollar mark, following Disney-Pixar’s “Inside Out 2,” which grossed $1.558 billion.

Notably, Deadpool & Wolverine is set to surpass 2019’s “Joker” ($1.07 billion, the only other R-rated film to reach this milestone) and become the highest-grossing R-rated film in history.

“Deadpool & Wolverine” has provided a much-needed boost for Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe. The previously unstoppable comic book franchise has faced challenges with recent underperformers like “Eternals,” “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” and “The Marvels.”

While post-pandemic releases such as “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” ($956 million), 2022’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” ($859 million), and 2023’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” ($846 million) came close to the $1 billion mark, “Deadpool & Wolverine” is only the second MCU film to surpass that milestone since 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame.” Sony’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home” was the first, grossing $1.9 billion in 2021.

The superhero sequel shattered the opening record for R-rated films previously held by the first “Deadpool” ($132 million).

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ has received generally positive reviews from critics. It holds a 78% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with praise for its action sequences, humour, and the chemistry between Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) and Hugh Jackman (Wolverine).

Audiences have been very receptive, with a high score of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes and an A- on CinemaScore.
