Marvel in talks with Karachi-born filmmaker Bassam Tariq to direct new film

Marvel is reported to be in talks with Karachi-born filmmaker Bassam Tariq to direct a new film, it emerges on Tuesday.

As per the news source, the director is currently in talks with Marvel to helm the vampire superhero film starring Mahershala Ali, however, the deal has not been finalized yet.

According to the news source, Tariq was reportedly roped in after Marvel interviewed dozens of candidates for the director’s seat.

Marvel had reportedly considered a few writer-director options before separating the two positions and hiring Osei-Kuffour.

The vampire superhero film will feature the two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali as Blade, a half-human, half-vampire who stalks the night to hunt down vampires.

Mahershala Ali was first unveiled as the new Blade at the end of Marvel Studios’ annual San Diego Comic-Con panel in July 2019.

Bassam Tariq is best known for directing 2020’s Mogul Mowgli, starring Riz Ahmed as a British-Pakistani rap artist.

He has previously worked on shorts and documentaries, including Netflix’s Ghosts of Sugar Land, which follows the story of a group of suburban Muslims who scuffle with a friend who has descended into extremist beliefs.

And if the deal is finalized, the 34-year-old filmmaker, a native of Karachi, Pakistan, will become the sixth director of color to take the helm of a Marvel Studios movie.
