Here’s what we know about the film and TV writers’ strike

The US TV and movie writers represented by The Writers Guild of America, WGA, went on strike Tuesday for the first time in 15 years after negotiations with film studios failed to reach a new contract.

As reported, after weeks of negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, talks broke down.

The talks over a multitude of topics, including the proliferation of small high-intensity writers’ rooms called “mini-rooms,” the industry’s approach to AI, and the Minimum Basic Agreement for writers’ salaries, according to proposals from the WGA running down its requests and the AMPTP’s offers.

According to the US media reports, around 11,500 film and TV writers belonging to the Writers Guild of America have been negotiating with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), which represents eight major studios: Amazon, Apple, Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery, NBC Universal, Netflix, Paramount and Sony. (CBS News and Paramount+ are owned by Paramount Global.)
