Pixar's Inside Out 2 continued to dominate the box office

‘Inside Out 2‘ has become 2024’s top-grossing film dethroning Dune 2!
Disney/Pixar’s Inside Out 2 is poised for a potentially historic second weekend for an animated movie, surpassing Illumination/Universal’s Super Mario Bros Movie’s $92.3 million.
Rival projections estimate $95 million for the second weekend of the Kelsey Mann-directed sequel, while insiders predict $85M-$90M+ following a $ 28M-$30M Friday at 4,400 locations.
The weekend’s earnings alone are expected to make the sequel the highest-grossing movie of the year to date, outpacing Dune: Part Two ($282.1M domestic).
At that level, Inside Out 2 appears set to achieve the best second weekend for any Disney animated release, surpassing Frozen 2’s $85.9 million and Incredibles 2’s $80.3 million.
Inside Out 2 ended its first week with $254.7 million, and after this weekend, its total is expected to reach $339.7 million-$344.7 million. It also set a Thursday’s earnings record for Pixar at $19.2 million, surpassing Finding Dory ($17.4 million) and Incredibles 2 ($16.3 million).
The worldwide total for Inside Out 2 through Friday stands at $481.1 million.
Sony’s Bad Boys: Ride or Die holds on to second place with $16 million, a 53% drop, for a running total of $144.1 million. This performance is similar to Bad Boys for Life’s third-weekend drop of 48%. By Sunday, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence’s fourth instalment will be about $4 million behind Bad Boys for Life at the same point. Friday’s earnings were $4.6 million at 3,781 venues.
Third place goes to Regency/Focus Features’ The Bikeriders, showing at 2,641 theatres. It earned $3.8 million on Friday, including $1.45 million from advance screenings and Thursday previews, for a $9 million opening. Focus covered 50% of the $30 million-$40 million production cost and is responsible for P&A. The Jeff Nichols-directed movie is expected to open between $8 million and $10 million.
