Jim Carrey Jokes About His Return in Sonic the Hedgehog 3: “I Need the Money!”

Carrey's return is anticipated to bring another entertaining performance to this beloved franchise.

Jim Carrey has humorously shared his motivation for reprising his role as Dr Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which is set to hit theatres on December 20, 2024.

During the film’s U.K. premiere on December 10, Carrey stated, “I came back to this universe because, first of all, I get to play a genius, which is a bit of a stretch. And, you know, it’s just… I bought a lot of stuff and I need the money, frankly”.

This marks a notable return for Carrey, who had previously hinted at retirement from acting unless he received an exceptionally compelling script. He had expressed disillusionment with Hollywood in the past but found the right opportunity with this franchise.

 

In addition to his role as Dr. Robotnik, he will also voice Gerald Robotnik, Dr. Robotnik’s grandfather, showcasing his commitment to the project.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 promises an exciting storyline where Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles face off against a new adversary, Shadow the Hedgehog, played by Keanu Reeves.

The film features a star-studded cast including Idris Elba and James Marsden among others.

Carrey’s return is anticipated to bring another entertaining performance to this beloved franchise.
