Mena Massoud has deleted his Twitter account following the ‘Little Mermaid’ backlash!
Aladdin star sparked the ire of The Little Mermaid fans on Saturday after suggesting that the upcoming live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid, starring Halle Bailey, will not ‘cross the billion mark’ but will ‘undoubtedly’ get a sequel.
“Our film was unique in that audiences went to watch it multiple times. It’s the only way we reached the billion-dollar mark with our opening,” the Aladdin star said in a tweet, adding, “My guess is TLM doesn’t cross the billion mark but will undoubtedly get a sequel.”
Fans were quick to respond to Massoud who starred as Aladdin in the 2019 live-action adaptation alongside Will Smith.
‘Your film reached a billion but you’re still jobless… seems like you got other things to worry about,’ a Twitter user wrote.
A Netizen hit back at the 33-year-old star saying, “Sir you’re being bitter cuz the movie is doing way better than Aladdin despite it not even being out yet…”
“I loved Aladdin and literally in the top 5 of my most fave Disney remakes. being pessimistic about a movie that hasn’t been out yet but praised by critics is just disappointing. I’m so disappointed in you,” another wrote.
“Mena Massoud being bitter and racist cuz Aladdin’s will not be getting a sequel after all and little mermaid is considered the best Disney live-action movie without being officially released ????,” another tweeted.
