Ryan Gosling Embarks on a Cosmic Quest in ‘Project Hail Mary’

The film is scheduled for theatrical release on March 20, 2026.

Ryan Gosling is set to star in Project Hail Mary, a sci-fi adventure film based on Andy Weir’s bestselling novel.

The film’s first trailer was recently launched at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.

Directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the movie follows Ryland Grace, a middle school science teacher turned reluctant astronaut, who embarks on a desperate space mission to save Earth from an extinction-level threat.

The story combines humor, drama, and high-stakes science fiction as Grace struggles with amnesia and the daunting realization of his critical task aboard the spaceship Hail Mary.

During the trailer’s debut, Gosling brought humor to the stage, joking about his character’s unsuitability for space travel with quips like, “I put the ‘not’ in astronaut; I can’t even moonwalk.” His portrayal of Grace highlights a blend of nerdy charm and reluctant heroism as he navigates his role in an interstellar rescue mission.

The trailer also teased visually stunning space scenes set to Harry Styles’ “Sign of the Times,” emphasizing the film’s cinematic scope and ambition.

The adaptation has been written by Drew Goddard, who previously worked on The Martian, another Andy Weir novel. Like The MartianProject Hail Mary promises a mix of scientific ingenuity and emotional depth.

The film is scheduled for theatrical release on March 20, 2026, marking Amazon MGM Studios’ commitment to big-screen storytelling despite its streaming roots.
