Philanthropist Roy praised the initiative, stating that CM Shah, an International Chess Federation member since 1992, delivered a powerful message by inviting Mehak to the match.

“The chief minister is a skilled chess player, but Mehak successfully checkmated him,” Roy noted.

He also commended Mehak’s confidence, highlighting that the match was brief.

“The chief minister played well, but Mehak remained remarkably composed throughout,” he added.

Roy further stressed the need to promote chess among children, citing its benefits in reducing screen time and enhancing critical thinking skills.

Mehak Maqbool, a student of SMB Fatima Jinnah Government School, recently achieved first place in the U-18 category and the National Youth Chess Championship.

The chess match was part of the ‘Karachi Open Chess Championship,’ organized by the Government of Sindh’s Sports and Youth Affairs Department at Frere Hall.
