China Achieves 25% Clean Energy Milestone

China has committed to peak its carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2060.

China has reached a significant environmental milestone, with clean energy now accounting for 25% of its total energy consumption, according to a recent report. This achievement underscores the country’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and advancing its renewable energy goals.

A white paper released on Thursday indicated that the share of clean energy in China’s total consumption rose from 15.5% to 26.4% over the last decade, as reported by state news agency Xinhua.

During this period, wind and solar capacity increased tenfold, with China accounting for over 40% of global renewable energy capacity additions since 2013.

The report highlights China’s continued investment in renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, and hydroelectric power.

These efforts are part of China’s broader strategy to transition from fossil fuels to more sustainable energy solutions, aiming to meet its carbon neutrality target by 2060.

The rise in clean energy consumption is attributed to increased government support for green technologies and substantial investments in infrastructure development.

As China continues to focus on innovation and sustainability, the move marks a pivotal step in the global effort to combat climate change.

China, the global leader in renewable energy, is poised to double its wind and solar capacity by 2025 and achieve its clean energy goals five years ahead of schedule, a new study reveals.

The annual report from the non-profit Global Energy Monitor (GEM) on utility-scale solar and wind power highlights that China’s rapid expansion in renewable energy over the past 15 years has positioned it at the forefront of global wind and solar capacity. Currently, each of these energy sources contributes to more than one-third of the world’s total installed capacity, according to the report.
