Chinese pilot banned from flying after photo of passenger in cockpit went viral

A Chinese pilot, whose name was not disclosed, has been banned from flying after a photo went viral showing a female passenger in the cockpit.

The photo was taken in January on an Air Guilin flight from Guilin city to Yangzhou city, according to the state media, but was widely shared this week, which resulted in the airline to take action.

The viral image shows a woman posing in the cockpit with refreshments on a tray placed next to her.

As being reported, a girl named Chen, a third-year student at Guilin Tourism University had uploaded the image onto Weibo with the caption, “I am super thankful to the pilot! I am so thrilled!”

In a statement, Air Guilin said that he had “violated [regulations] by allowing irrelevant personnel into the cockpit”.

According to the Civil Aviation Administration of China, passengers are not allowed to enter the cockpit without special approval or under “necessary” circumstances.

Other staff members involved in the incident are reported to have also been “suspended indefinitely” while further investigations are being held.
