Karachi’s First Street Library to be Inaugurated On Jinnah’s Birthday

Karachi Pakistan’s largest city is all set to get its first street library this year. This innovative idea has been made into reality by Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Ali Shallwani, to encourage reading in the metropolis.

A Roadside ‘cupboard’ has been transformed into a street library near the Metropole Hotel. Furthermore, it will not only be the street library offer books to those interested and attract avid readers from all around the city, but it also features sculpted artwork.

The walls of the surrounding of the built-in library have been decorated with portraits of Quaid-e-Azam, Mader-e-Millat Miss Fatima Jinnah and poet of the nation Allama Iqbal.

The first Street Library will be inaugurated on the 25th of December 2019, on our beloved father of the nation’s birthday.

Earlier while talking to the news outlet Commissioner Karachi said that “Internet, technology, Google, and [many] spend a lot of time on the computer but a book is a book. Books will benefit youngsters a lot, and if they read, then they can achieve whatever they want in the world.”

He further added that the existing public libraries will not be ignored any longer. The plans for their upgrade and repairs are underway. Moreover, speaking on the digital age and how youngsters have been driven away from the books.
