LUMS celebrating Bollywood Day leaves the social media divided
LUMS celebrating Bollywood Day has left social media divided.
It was the other day when the students of Lahore University of Management and Sciences (LUMS) celebrated Bollywood Day marking a farewell event for a batch of their seniors.
Ever since the videos of the event went viral on social media it has led to vast criticism.
The management of the university is also facing backlash from netizens in Pakistan for ‘showing love for India’.
The video clips in circulation show students dressed up in various Bollywood film characters.
The event has initiated a debate on the issue where some social media users supported the idea of celebrating Bollywood Day at the university, whereas, the majority criticised it and the management of the university for ‘showing love for India’.
Here is how reactions to the controversial Bollywood day poured in on social media:
یہ ادارہ LUMS پورے پاکستان سے کوئی الگ ہی نسل پیدا کر رہا ہے ۔۔— Imran Afzal Raja (@ImranARaja1) February 19, 2023
خیر جن کے اساتذہ ہود بھائی اور ندا کرمانی جیسے ہوں وہاں ایسی ہی آئٹمیں نکلیں گی ۔۔
Yes it's absolutely wrong. LUMS, NCA, Beaconhouse & all such institutes are not promoting good education but just inculcating wrong & Haram things in mind. Also promoting vulgarity, arrogance, disrespect for elders, poor ppl & zero ethics + lack of moral, social values! 🙂💔<<< pic.twitter.com/Fvlmz34VfC— Aysh♥️(Zalmi😎) (@AyeshaSKhan5) February 20, 2023
These kids only celebrated Bollywood Day, I loved the fun they had. What’s wrong in it? Let them live a few happy years of their lives before they are trapped in mundane situations of of practical life when in jobs. #LUMS pic.twitter.com/VkuomvlDnR— Shama Junejo (@ShamaJunejo) February 19, 2023
Pakistanis are getting triggered by this video from LUMS because as a nation we are ANTI FUN. Being happy is prohibited. The violence of Ertugral is more suited to our sorry taste. pic.twitter.com/f0NxDHd0eS— Hamza Azhar Salam (@HamzaAzhrSalam) February 19, 2023
A nation obsessed over Bollywood movies for decades, where every wedding predominantly features Bollywood songs is suddenly outraged over LUMS celebrating Bollywood day. 🤦♂️— SocialPariah (@Non_graata) February 20, 2023
Idk why people are getting furious at this "bollywood day" in LUMS. Being a 90's kid, I enjoyed bollywood for a major chunk of my life while Syed Noor Pakistan was busy making Saima and Shan dance wierdly in crops, so I'm not sorry if we relate more to bollywood characters.— Usama (@Thebiryanihead) February 20, 2023
