President Awards Sitara-i-Imtiaz to Asif Bashir for Saving Lives of Pilgrims

Asif Bashir was deputed as a Hajj Muavin during last year's pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.

President Asif Ali Zardari has conferred the Sitara-i-Imtiaz upon Asif Bashir, who played a crucial role in saving the lives of several pilgrims in Saudi Arabia.

The award was presented in recognition of his outstanding services in the field of public service during a ceremony held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad on Friday.

Asif Bashir provided exceptional and commendable assistance as a Hajj assistant last year.

Asif Bashir, currently serving as a computer operator in the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Peshawar, was deputed as a Hajj Muavin during last year’s pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.

On the 9th of Zul-Hijjah, many Pakistani, Indian, and British pilgrims fainted due to severe heat. During this crisis, Asif Bashir and his five-member team provided initial medical aid to the affected pilgrims.

The Pakistani team also extended help to several distressed Indian pilgrims. In challenging circumstances, Asif Bashir carried 26 pilgrims, including 17 Indians, on his shoulders to a hospital, and thanks to his prompt actions, their lives were saved.

In recognition of his remarkable services, the Indian Minister for Minority Affairs also wrote a letter of appreciation to Asif Bashir.
