World’s oldest cat, Rosie, dies aged 33

Rosie turned 33 on June 1 this year and died at the equivalent age of 152 in human years.

The world’s oldest cat, Rosie, died in the UK, aged 33 earlier this week.

The tortoiseshell cat walked into the hallway of her home in Norwich, Norfolk, lay down, and passed away, according to her devoted owner, Lila Brissett, 73.

Rosie was born in 1991 and celebrated her 33rd birthday on June 1, which translates to an impressive 152 in cat years.

Brissett, from Norwich, England, adopted Rosie as a kitten after her first family brought her to a shelter upon discovering their daughter was allergic, she shared with The Mirror.

“I miss her so much,” Brissett said. “She wasn’t very well, and one day she simply walked into the hallway, lay down, and passed away. We shared many wonderful memories, and I’m grateful for our time together.”

Rosie lived with Brissett in her ground-floor apartment and had become accustomed to her lifestyle. Brissett noted that Rosie spent her days napping on the windowsill, eating, and using her litter box—sounds like a perfect life.

Ahead of her 32nd birthday, The Mirror reported that Rosie had only visited the vet twice in her life: once to be spayed and once for a cyst.

While Rosie clearly had great genes, Kinship’s experts recommend regular vet visits to monitor a cat’s health.

“There’s no need for an alarm clock,” she told The Mirror previously.

“All she does is eat, sleep, use the litter box, and repeat. I often check to make sure she’s still alive and breathing. I worry about the day she crosses the rainbow bridge. She’ll leave a huge void. I’ll miss her dearly, but I would never have her put down.”
