Haroon Says Stars Aligned for Him to Shoot Mehbooba at Egyptian Pyramids

Growing up in the early 2000s meant lots of iconic Pakistani songs and their equally impressive videos. One such favorite is Haroon’s Mehmooba which at the time stood out for its extraordinarily different music and even more so the fact that the video was shot at the majestic Egyptian pyramids.

But what impressed us as young children wasn’t an easy feat for Haroon to achieve. Recently the Dil Se Pakistan singer took to social media to share how fate was in his favor and he achieved the unimaginable.

“Who remembers this one? When I recorded this song I thought wow I would love to shoot the video by the Pyramids,” wrote the singer on Instagram as he told he just randomly found a production company in Cairo, booked his tickets and flew there for three days, only to be disappointed.

“In the end, they told me I couldn’t afford to shoot by the pyramids and it would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars; and that I should just shoot the video in Pakistan on a fake Egypt set. I was really devastated,” the Mehendi singer narrated.

But as they say, fate favors those who try hard. After exhausting his resources and giving up on the idea, Haroon got one last chance as the company people asked him to sing the song on the day of his departure. The song obviously impressed them to the core.

“When they heard it, they loved it. The lady producer said I love this song so much, I will make it happen no matter what. She called in a favour from her best friend who was married to the owner of the local Cairo production company that worked on the film Lawrence of Arabia,” Haroon shared.

The rest is history, Haroon went back a few weeks later with his Pakistani crew including director Ahsan Khan and Amina Sheikh to shoot one of the biggest hits of his career.

“There were so many things that could have gone wrong but the stars aligned and this music video went on to be one of my solo biggest hits,” the singer wrote.
