Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s lost album eyes release 27 years after the legendary singer’s death

Chain of Light is coming out on Sep 20

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s lost album is set to be released 27 years after the legendary singer’s death!

The development comes as Rolling Stone disclosed that the lost album, ‘Chain of Light,’ was uncovered in the tape archives of Peter Gabriel’s Real World Records.

The label signed Nusrat in 1989 and released a series of critically acclaimed albums with him throughout the 1990s.

Chain of Light was found from the depths of warehouse storage at Real World Studios during an archive relocation in 2021.

“Chain of Light” releases on September 20, 2024, via Real World Records, supported in part by the British Council, comprising four traditional qawwali tracks, including a previously unheard gem.

This recording, captured at Real World Studios in April 1990, coincides with Ustad Nusrat Ali Khan’s work on his iconic crossover album with Canadian producer Michael Brook, Mustt Mustt, and showcases the maestro at the pinnacle of his vocal prowess.

Producer Michael Brook praised the recordings, stating, “There is an amazing clarity to these performances. They are more harmonically adventurous than the other songs that the late singer was recording at the time, and the whole group is firing on all cylinders.”

“I’ve had the privilege to work with a ton of different musicians from all over the world in my time, but perhaps the greatest singer of them all was Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan,” says Peter Gabriel.
