44 Pakistanis Among 50 Feared Dead in Tragic Boat Disaster En-route to Spain
The boat left for Spain on January 2

A boat carrying 86 migrants, including 66 Pakistanis, capsized while attempting to reach Spain. Moroccan authorities managed to rescue 36 individuals from the incident.
According to the migrant rights group Walking Borders, a tragic incident involved migrants attempting to reach Spain from West Africa.
Helena Maleno, CEO of Walking Borders, shared on social media that 44 of the victims were from Pakistan, describing the ordeal as a 13-day journey of suffering and anguish with no rescue assistance.
Citing the Walking Borders’ post on X, the Canary Islands’ regional leader Fernando Clavijo expressed his sorrow for the victims and urged Spain and Europe to act to prevent further tragedies.
“The Atlantic cannot continue to be the graveyard of Africa,” Clavijo said on X. “They cannot continue to turn their backs on this humanitarian drama.”
This tragedy is part of a larger pattern of perilous journeys undertaken by migrants seeking better opportunities in Europe. Many of these individuals are fleeing dire conditions in their home countries, and the risks associated with such voyages are significant.
