6.3 magnitude earthquake hits Nepal
A 6.3 magnitude earthquake hits Nepal on Wednesday and the shocks were also felt in neighboring India!
- The National Earthquake Monitoring Centre of Nepal said a 6.6-magnitude quake was recorded at 2.12 am.
- The epicenter was the Doti district.
- The region had experienced at least two earthquakes of 4.9 and 3.5 magnitudes late Tuesday evening, the NCS data showed.
The earthquake has left at least six people killed and destroyed multiple houses in the western district of Doti, officials said.
Doti’s deputy superintendent of police confirmed an earlier figure shared by home ministry official Tulsi Rijal.
According to him, five other people were seriously injured as eight houses collapsed, said Bhola Bhatta.
The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) said the epicenter of the 6.3-magnitude earthquake, which struck at 1.57 am, was in Nepal, about 90 km east-southeast of Pithoragarh.
The region has been experiencing lower-magnitude quakes for the last few days.
As a massive earthquake has left a trail of destruction in parts of Nepal, the government has mobilized its army to carry out search and rescue operations in the most affected areas.
